Here is a bouquet of little pick-me-ups to make you feel better when you're having a bad day. Seeing how this year has been a gold mine in that regard, I'd consider starring this one.
- Spending hours in a day reading long, painfully typed text messages from your friend who's giving you a play by play, processed, eight year old friendly version of that horror show that is deeply intriguing but you're too scared to watch, even if it makes sleeping more difficult than it already is
- Dreaming about familiar places - a bench on the school playground, a milestone on the highway, nani ghar in summers, that nook in your old room that you used to hide in under the bed with a book and a torch after it was dark
- Watching Wake Up Sid with your best friend, after having a long, excruciating week, stuffing your face with momos, following it up with good wine, forgetting everything you've been trying to forget and passing out happy in the middle of the movie
- Smoke breaks in between work, where you don't smoke, just sulk and vent enough to be able to go back inside - even on days where you can barely utter a word
- Relaxing in your own bed when it's pleasantly cold, curled up in your blanket with your favourite cushions, watching a rerun of Gilmore Girls for the nth time because it still makes you smile
- Receiving a long letter/email on your birthdays without fail and being reminded of incidents that were teasing at the periphery of your memory, close to being forgotten
- Driving off to lakes and waterfalls in the middle of the night with friends, one of whom is a terrible driver and still manages to scare you off with how dark the roads are while half the janta is peacefully snoring away
- Dressing up for random plans to go out, eat, drink and dance, plan for an after party only to be exhausted on the way back so everyone just goes home to sleep
- Waking up every morning to look up Chef Kobe videos and going back to sleep groaning about the piled up work
- Having long, meaningful, philosophical conversations with that wise kid friend who advises you never to hope even though you both have no idea how to adult
- Ordering a Truffles burger for the same wise friend and carrying it over a two hour long flight because they insisted but weren't really expecting it
- Listening to a friend's cover of your favourite songs
- Having antakshari sessions over a whatsapp group where nobody really cares about the rules and just sings out what their heart wants
- Laughing in the middle of the night over remixes of shitty dialogues and 'journalism'
- Watching the sun rise after a really fun party because you just couldn't sleep
- Finishing your first audio book that was such a perfect balance between a story and lullaby that it successfully helped you sleep for a week
- The regular endorphin dose in the Gola group with pictures and videos of the cutest kids ever
- Shopping for gifts in the freezing cold a day before your flight, getting stranded when it starts raining and just sitting at a cafe drinking tea as you say goodbye to this beautiful, fairy tale dreamland decorated with Christmas lights
I did not think I'd remember this many - will post more on any imminent bad days.
Because?
We take the sourest lemon life has to offer and turn it into something resembling a lemonade.
PS: This is Us makes you cry like a baby but it is a super duper wholesome pick me up too.
